Thrift shopping is an exciting experience. They say you’ll know you’re doing it right if it feels like you’re stealing! The usual plan for a successful thrift shop is to go early, go often and to go cheap and have fun whilst you’re at it. Luckily there are a number of thrift stores around the US that offer some incredible prices with a complimentary shopping environment. Although it’s not easy work finding treasure in a second hand shop, so we’ve compiled a list of some of the best thrift shops stateside.
Seattle – Fury Consignment
Fury is a family owned consignment shop and is a favourite amongst the locals. It has some of the top labels such as Prada and has one of the largest selections of Jimmy Choo shoes in the area, for around $100, bargain!
Washington D.C. – Annie Creamcheese
Annie Cream Cheese, not only has a great name but also a great range of vintage attire. It has had a feature on the Discovery Channel and has a large celeb following. It was also voted the top vintage store in Washington in 2008.
New York City – NYC Opera Thrift Shop
If you were to search Areavibes for the best place to live in America, I’m sure New York would be somewhere at the top of the list. The same can be said when it comes to thrift shopping in NYC. Its home to what Vogue pronounced as: “One of the highest quality thrift shops”. It’s complete with antique books, vintage jewellery and gorgeous clothes.
Phoenix – Flo’s
It’s a small shop but full of high-quality clothing, footwear, furniture and much more. It supports Florence Crittenton a charity which cares for and helps girls aged 12-21 who have been subject to abuse or neglect, teen pregnancy and mental health problems.
San Francisco – Out of the Closet
Out of the Closet was voted The Best Thrift Shop by SF Weekly in 2008. It has a range of products on sale, from suits to couches. It’s owned by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation.
